New Delhi: Former India captain MS Dhoni showcased his love and admiration for his former India teammates when asked to name a few players from the past that he would like to see playing together again. The legendary wicket-keeper batter picked the trio of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Sourav Ganguly while also giving a special mention to Yuvraj Singh.
One of the most successful captains in India’s history, Dhoni made his international debut under Ganguly’s captaincy in 2004 and went on to captain the likes of Tendulkar, Sehwag and Yuvraj for India. Sehwag and Yuvraj were part of the Indian team that won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007. Dhoni later led India to a memorable triumph in the 2011 ODI World Cup in what was a fitting tribute to Tendulkar in his sixth and final World Cup campaign for India.
Recently, Dhoni made his podcast debut with popular content creator and host Raj Shamani on a podcast for his app – the Dhoni app. The former India captain opened up about his cricketing journey and shared valuable lessons he learned while playing the sport. When asked to name which players from the past he would like to see playing together again, Dhoni stick to his ex-India teammates.
“Yeah, I would stick to my Indian players, man. Viru pa (Virender Sehwag) opening the innings. So Virupa Sachin, Dada. Because, you know, the thing is, imagine everyone at their prime. And the beauty is when you see them playing, you will feel like there’s nobody else like that. But cricket is such as game that keeps on going up and down. So it becomes very difficult how to pick, but growing up we have all seen these players perform,” Dhoni told host Raj Shamani on the podcast.
The legendary wicket-keeper batter also gave a special mention to his former teammate Yuvraj. Recalling his six sixes against former England pacer Stuart Broad in the T20 World Cup 2007, Dhoni insisted it was some of the best batsmanship that he had witnessed in his career. Dhoni and Yuvraj were the strongest pillars of India’s middle order during their playing days and won numerous matches for the country together.
“You know when Yuvi (Yuvraj) was hitting six sixes, you’d say you don’t want to watch anyone else. So, the thing is, why I should pick anyone? Why can’t I just enjoy everyone? You know, they all contributed for India. You know, they all made sure that we win many tournaments wherever we are playing,” Dhoni added.

MS Dhoni facing criticism over his batting for CSK in IPL 2025
Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in 2020, is still playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). One of the most successful captains in IPL history, Dhoni led CSK to five titles before stepping down from captaincy ahead of IPL 2024 last year. He handed over the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is leading CSK at present.
While many thought Dhoni might call draw curtains on his legendary career after IPL 2024, he is still going strong for CSK. However, the legendary wicket-keeper batter has been facing criticism over his batting. Dhoni has struggled as a finisher for CSK this season and has failed to turn up in crunch situations for his team.
CSK’s struggling top and middle order haven’t helped their cause. The five-time champions are off to a disastrous start in IPL 2025, having managed only one win in their first four matches. CSK are currently at the 9th spot on the IPL 2025 points table with just 2 points and desperately need a turnaround to salvage the season.
