New Delhi: The Paris Olympics 2024 is scheduled to start from July 26 to August 11. India’s badminton players have a good chance of winning medals in the upcoming event. Seven Indian badminton players including the former world champion PV Sindhu officially qualified for the Paris Olympics across four categories according to Olympic Games Qualification rankings.
Sindhu and men’s singles players like HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen have already qualified for the tournament. According to the qualification criteria, the top 16 shuttlers as per their Olympic Games Qualification ranking on the cut-off date will secure tickets to the mega event.
In this year’s Olympic games former world champion and two-time medalist PV Sindhu emerged 12th in the rankings thus gaining her slot for participation in this year’s Olympics. Sen and Prannoy ranked ninth and thirteenth in men’s singles, also qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024.
India’s promising men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty finished third at the end of an Olympic qualifying cycle, putting them among India’s major medal aspirants in badminton at the Paris Olympics.
Among the pairs who participated in the women’s doubles category, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa made it to the 13th position on the qualification table which assured their qualification in the upcoming event. However, Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand missed out on qualifying by a small margin which added a little bit of disappointment to India’s successful campaign.
The participation of these players reinforces India’s badminton strength worldwide with Sindhu and Lakshya Sen making their mark on the big stage. As these players prepare for the upcoming event, the nation will look forward to their performances with high hopes of bringing some medals to the country.
The qualification of these players in the Olympics is an indication that Indian badminton has been improving, with chances of performing exceptionally well at the Paris Olympics 2024.

PV Sindhu: Two-time Olympic medalist is placed in Group M along with Kristin Kuuba of Estonia and Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq of the Maldives.
HS Prannoy: HS Prannoy has been drawn in Group K along with Le Duc Phat of Vietnam and Germany’s Fabian Roth in the pool.
Lakshya Sen: The 19th-ranked shuttler is placed in Group L and will face world No. 3 Jonatan Christie of Indonesia, Kevin Cordon of Guatemala, and Julien Carraggi of Belgium.
Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa: In the women’s doubles, the Indian duo is drawn in Group C. They will face Japan’s Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida, South Korea’s Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong, and Australia’s Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty: The draw for the men’s doubles event has been postponed.
