New Delhi: Kylian Mbappe has already cemented himself as one of the most lethal forwards of his generation but his latest achievement in the UEFA Champions League has placed him in a league of his own. The French superstar delivered a masterclass in Real Madrid’s knockout tie against Manchester City, scoring a remarkable hat trick at the Santiago Bernabeu.

This wasn’t just another standout performance from the 26-year-old rather it was a historic one as he became the first player ever to score a Champions League hat trick at both the Bernabeu and Camp Nou. With this incredible feat, Mbappe reached 500 career goal contributions. After scoring a hat trick, Kylian Mbappe hit the “calma” just like his idol Cristiano Ronaldo.

His first treble at Camp Nou came in 2021 when he was still wearing Paris Saint-Germain colours, tearing through Barcelona’s defence in the round of 16 at just 22 years old. That night he joined Shevchenko as the only player to net a Champions League hat trick at the iconic stadium. Now, with his heroics at the Bernabeu, he has surpassed them both and etched his name into footballing folklore.

A record-breaking night at the Bernabeu

Mbappe’s dazzling display against the reigning European champions Manchester City saw him guide Real Madrid into the next round of the competition with his first-ever Champions League hat trick at their legendary home ground. His lethal finishing and composure in front of goal proved too much for Pep Guardiola’s side as Los Blancos secured a statement victory in their pursuit of another European crown.

This wasn’t his first hat trick in Madrid colours either. Since making his highly anticipated move to Madrid, Mbappe has been in unstoppable form. He has already netted 28 goals across all competitions this season. His first hat trick for Real Madrid came in a La Liga fixture against Real Valladolid on January 25, showcasing his instant impact in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad. He has even levelled with Lionel Messi with the most Champions League goals scored against Man City ever.

Now with seven Champions League goals for Los Blancos, the Frenchman is proving to be the decisive factor in their European campaign. As the competition heads into the latter stages, Mbappe’s form could be the key to Madrid’s quest for yet another Champions League triumph.

What next for Madrid?

In the round of 16 of the Champions League, Real Madrid will face either Atletico de Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen on March 4.

Kylian Mbappe joins Lionel Messi, Karim Benzema and Robert Lewandowski in elite company with his second Champions League knockout stage hat-trick.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
