La Liga heats up as Real Madrid edge Getafe, Alavés stun Sociedad

New Delhi: The La Liga clashes on Wednesday night proved pivotal as Real Madrid secured a narrow 1-0 win over Getafe while Deportivo Alaves clinched a surprising 1-0 victory against Real Sociedad. The two games impacted both ends of the table, and the title race is all the more intensified and heated up. Saving it all for the impending Copa del Rey final, the Los Blancos played with a different strategy and game plan.

At the Estadio Coliseum, Real Madrid’s budding talent Arda Güler claimed the spotlight when he netted in a decisive goal in the 21st minute, marking his first-ever goal for the Blancos in the league. What remained different in the game plan was their boss, Carlos Ancelotti, rotating his squad and resting key players like Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo ahead of the upcoming and crucial Copa del Rey final.

Despite all these changes, Madrid was successful in controlling the ball, and their goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made important saves to keep his side in the lead. But… the win came at a cost for Madrid as their midfielder Eduardo Camavinga had to limp off the field. He had entered the game as a substitute and sustained a leg muscle injury, which forced him to leave the field.

It is understood that David Alaba of Madrid is already injured, and these two injuries have raised concerns over Madrid’s lineup in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona. At the post-match presser, Ancelotti confirmed that both players are unlikely to recover in time for the crucial game.

Alavés stun Real Sociedad

At the Estadio de Mendizorroza, Deportivo Alavés registered a stunning 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad. The match remained goalless until the 65th minute when Nahuel Tenaglia drilled in the winner as he capitalised on a corner delivered by Carlos Vicente. The was crucial for Alaves as it bolstered their position in the league table and showcased their grit against a competitive side like Sociedad.

Talking about the La Liga standings, Madrid remains only four points behind league leaders Barcelona, keeping the title race alive with five matches to go. Alavés’ victory surely puts them in a stronger position to finish the season on a high.

Real Madrid and Alavés cruised to comfortable victories in the late night La Liga encounters on Wednesday with only a solitary goal taking them over the line amidst tight title race.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
