New Delhi: Lakshya Sen claimed his maiden Syed Modi International badminton singles title with a thumping 21-6, 21-7 win over Singapore’s Jia Heng Jason Teh 21-6, 21-7 in the final in Lucknow on Sunday.
The Indian star, with a world ranking of 17, needed only 31 minutes to win the title round clash at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium.
It was Sen’s first title in his first final of the year while PV Sindhu ended her prolonged title drought with a 21-14, 21-16 over China’s Wu Luo Yu in the final.
Lakshya, Sindhu return to form
Both Lakshya and Sindhu endured disappointment at the Paris Olympics, putting them under immense pressure. But they have responded to that scrutiny with title victories that would boost their confidence a lot.
Former world champion Sindhu won the title for the third time, having earlier won in 2017 and 2022. It was the 29-year-old’s first title in only her second appearance in the final of any tournament this year.
Sindhu’s emerged on top of the podium after two years and four months, with her last title triumph being at the Singapore Open in July 2022. She was beaten in the final of the Malaysia Masters Super 500 in May.
