New Delhi: Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen will look to create history when he takes on the defending Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen in the men’s singles badminton semi-final match at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Lakshya has played well against players he usually struggles to perform and manages to frustrate them in his quest for an Olympic medal. Lakshya’s personal coach Vimal Kumar called him the ‘dark horse’ of the Paris Olympics and so far Lakshya has proved him right.
Lakshya has faced Axelsen eight times in his career and has lost seven times against him. However, the Indian shuttler has been in great form at the Paris Olympics and can shock Axelsen. If he wins, a medal will be assured and he will become India’s first men’s player to secure an Olympic medal.
Lakshya is playing his maiden Olympics and in a recent interview with the broadcaster, he said that his only focus is on the next match, and not on the fact that he is just one match away from creating history.
He created history by becoming the first Indian men’s singles shuttler to reach in the semi-final after he fought back from a game down to beat Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen by a scoreline of 19-21, 21-15, 21-12 in the quarterfinal.
Earlier, Lakshya defeated his compatriot HS Prannoy in straight games in the round of 16 after registering three more straight sets wins to top Group L.
