New Delhi: Ruud van Nisteltrooy’s Leicester City has hit another low as on Monday, they became the first team in the top four tiers of English football to lose eight successive home league games without scoring. They have not found the back of the net at the King Power Stadium since 8 December.

Leicester’s current run of eight games without a goal at their home turf equalled that of Manchester City back in May 2007, and with the next fixture against table toppers Liverpool, a new record could very well be set after Daniel Farake Van Nistelrooy is the only second manager in Premier League history to lose eight successive games.

After the 3-0 loss to Newcastle United, Nistelrooy said, “What is worrying is the run of form, lack of goals, the lack of results we can produce.” He has tried almost all variations to get results, but nothing worked out in the Foxes’ favour, which is a concerning thing that needs to be tackled at the earliest.

Despite being on a winless streak of nine games, the Foxes still have their Premier League status intact,t though players are losing confidence and need to regain the confidence to bounce back. The loss marked an unwanted record as they suffered their 11th home league loss of a miserable campaign. The Foxes have 17 points in 31 matches and are just 15 points adrift of the relegation zone. They seem destined to join relegated Southampton back in the Championship next season.

Leicester City defender James Justin also marked that players are struggling to get back their confidence as the weeks pass by. He said, “It’s hard to describe, to be honest, with how it’s been, and it makes us feel awful right at the moment. It’s a horrible moment for the club with how we’re playing on the pitch.”

What next?

Leicester City’s immediate challenge is a fixture against Brighton on Saturday, followed by a daunting encounter with table-toppers Liverpool on April 20th. These upcoming matches will be crucial in determining whether Van Nistelrooy can find a solution to their alarming slump and if the team can salvage any pride from a season rapidly spiraling towards relegation.

Leicester City have lost eight consecutive home games without scoring, setting a Premier League record under Ruud van Nistelrooy’s troubled management.
