MI vs PBKS, IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 delayed due to rain: What is the cut-off time for a 5-over match?

New Delhi: Rain has played spoilsport in the Qualifier 2 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The start of the all-important clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has been delayed due to continuous downpour. The toss took place on the scheduled time, however, rain arrived right before the start of the match.

The weather forecast was not promising around the time of the start of the game, and as expected, rain played spoilsport after the toss to delay the start of the match. It started raining right after the Punjab Kings players and the umpires walked out on the pitch for the start of the all-important contest. They had to leave the field immediately as the ground staff brought the covers on.

The rain halted for a few minutes, only to return stronger later as the covers remained intact. The rain has been steady now, and the entire ground is covered, with no signs of a proper start anytime soon. However, in some good news for the cricket fans around the country who would be hoping for a full-fledged encounter, there is a window of 120 minutes before the overs are reduced in the match.

What is the cut-off time for a 20-over and a 5-over match in Qualifier 2?

With an extra two-hour allowance, the cut-off time for a full 20-over match is 9:30 PM IST for the Qualifier 2 between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians. The game can start at 9:30 PM without a single over getting deducted. However, the overs will start getting deducted if the match fails to get underway by the above-mentioned deadline.

The cut-off time for a minimum five-over-a-side match is 11:56 PM IST. It is to be noted that both teams have to play a minimum five-over match to determine the result of the contest. If the rain persists and prevents a five-over match, Qualifier 2 between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings will be abandoned.

What happens if Qualifier 2 between PBKS vs MI is abandoned?

There is no reserve day for Qualifier 2 between the Mumbai Indians and the Punjab Kings. The team that has finished higher on the points table during the league stage will qualify for the final if the match is abandoned without a ball being bowled. Thus, Punjab Kings, who finished above MI, will meet RCB in the IPL 2025 final on June 03 if the Qualifier 2 is washed out completely.
