New Delhi: The defending champions of the UEFA Champions League kickstarted their defence of the tournament with a hard fought win over German side VfB Stuttgart in their first game of the league stage. They take on French side LOSC Lille in the second game at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in France. Tonight’s game marks the first official meeting between the two sides as the two had never be drawn together previously.
Lille head into the game with a terrible record against Spanish sides in the UEFA Champions League. They’ve only won one of their last nine games against clubs from Spain and have lost five of those. They’ve started their Ligue 1 campaign strongly this season as they sit fifth in the points table after six games but didn’t get their Champions League campaign on the right foot. They lost their opening game to Slavia Praha and currently sit 28th in the Champions League table.
Real Madrid, conversely, have started strongly in La Liga as they are near the top of the table but they’d be disappointed by this start considering their high standard. Los Blancos are second in the league having drawn three of their first eight games in Spain. In Europe however, they’re a completely different beast. They’re currently on a 14 game unbeaten run in the UEFA Champions League, 10 of which have been wins.
