Lok Sabha Speaker election: YSRCP to back NDA

Lok Sabha Speaker election: YSRCP to back NDA

YSRCP’s four MPs will likely back BJP-led NDA in Wednesday’s election of Lok Sabha Speaker, reports said.

The four MPs will likely support NDA nominee Om Birla. YSRCP sources said that the NDA sought its support and that it would be done.

This comes after YSRCP suffered a heavy defeat in the recently held  Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in AP. TDP in alliance with BJP and JSP won 21 Parliamentary seats while YSRCP won merely four seats.

TDP, which is an NDA ally has issued whips to its MPs to support Om Birla and all TDP, JSP MPs have reached Delhi to cast their votes at 11 am.

Janasena MP Vallabhaneni Balashowry said, “As our party is an ally of the NDA, we will back Om Birla.”

It is also not surprising that the YCP is supporting NDA as the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led party gave its support to NDA over the last five years to the BJP, especially in Rajya Sabha to pass laws like Citizenship Amendment Act and Article 370 abolition.

CM Ramesh, BJP Parliamentarian said, “There is no alternative for the YSRC other than to support us after the rout in recent elections, if it wants to protect its interests.”

The YSRC has tried to be in the good books of the BJP over the last five years but the BJP chose to ally itself with TDP and JSP and hit out at YCP during the election campaign.

INDIA alliance has fielded Kodikunnil Suresh after the NDA and opposition parties failed to reach consensus.
