New Delhi: Continuing her dream run in the Australian Open 2025, USA’s Madison Keys stunned world no.1 Aryna Sabalenka in an epic final to lift her maiden Grand Slam title in Melbourne on Saturday, January 25. Keys produced yet another gritty display as she got the better of Sabalenka 3-6, 6-2, 5-7 in the summit clash at the Rod Laver Arena to clinch a historic maiden Australian Open title.
Top seed Sabalenka was bidding to script history with her third Australian Open title in a row but standing in her way was Keys, who headed into the final on the back of a sensational victory against world no.2 Iga Swiatek. Playing her first Grand Slam final since her maiden final appearance at the US Open in 2017, Keys brought an end to a long agonising wait for her first major with a stunning display at the Rod Laver Arena.
Keys saved her best for the last in the final as she came up with some exceptional serves to leave Sabalenka in tatters in the decisive third set. The American broke the world no.1 in Game 12 of the third set to win the final and lay her hands on her first Australian Open crown.
