New Delhi: Manchester City forward Erling Haaland sustained an ankle injury during Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final victory against Bournemouth. Haaland had just scored his 30th goal of the season before he got injured in a challenge by midfielder Lewis Cook. The Norwegian was substituted in the 61st minute after he scored the equaliser as City went on to beat the Cherries 2-1 and earn a spot in the semis.
After scans on Monday, City said the 24-year-old will see a specialist to determine the full extent of the injury as the season approaches its crucial phase. The club in an official statement, said, “The expectation is that Erling will be fit in time to play a further part in the remainder of this season, including this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.”

The City is in a fight to qualify for the Champions League next season as they are currently fifth in the Premier League. With only nine matchdays left, they are already adrift of the coveted top four. After a difficult Premier League campaign and early eliminations from both the Champions League and Carabao Cup, the FA Cup now represents City’s sole opportunity to claim silverware this season.
Looking ahead
The reigning champions are navigating a packed week with upcoming matches against Leicester City and Manchester United. Their schedule continues with a home game against Crystal Palace, followed by an away fixture versus Everton, all leading up to their FA Cup semi-final encounter with Nottingham Forest at Wembley Stadium on April 26th.
