New Delhi: Manchester City’s Issa Kabore is poised to join Werder Bremen on loan for the rest of the season after his time at Benfica was cut short due to limited opportunities. The 23-year-old right-back managed just seven appearances for the Portuguese giants, with most being brief cameos. Frustrated by his lack of game time, Manchester City recalled him, setting the stage for a fresh chapter in the Bundesliga.
Werder Bremen, currently sitting seventh in the league and eyeing European qualification, are keen to bolster their options on the right flank. Kabore will compete with Mitchell Weiser and Felix Agu for the wing-back role in Ole Werner’s dynamic 3-5-2 system.
For Kabore, this move is a chance to reignite his career, showcase his potential, and secure more regular playing time. With a contract at City until 2027, this loan could shape the future path of his promising journey.

Born on May 12, 2001, in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, Kaboré began his professional career with Belgian side KV Mechelen in 2019. In July 2020, he signed with Manchester City but remained on loan at Mechelen for the 2020–2021 season. Subsequent loan spells included stints at Troyes, Marseille, and Luton Town, where he gained valuable experience but struggled to secure a permanent spot.
Internationally, Kaboré has been capped 45 times for Burkina Faso, scoring two goals, and was named the Best Young Player at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
At Werder Bremen, Kaboré will compete with Mitchell Weiser and Felix Agu for the right wing-back position in Ole Werner’s 3-5-2 formation. Bremen, currently seventh in the Bundesliga, are aiming to strengthen their squad as they push for European qualification. Kaboré’s addition is expected to provide depth and dynamism to their right flank.
This move presents an opportunity for Kaboré to revitalize his career after a challenging period at Benfica. With his contract at Manchester City running until 2027, consistent performances at Werder Bremen could be pivotal in determining his long-term future, whether that involves a permanent move or a return to compete for a place at his parent club.
Manchester City’s young star is set to join Werder Bremen on loan after a frustrating stint at Benfica. The 23-year-old right-back managed only seven appearances and now hopes for a fresh start in the Bundesliga.
