‘Many people now joining CPM with sole intention of making money’, says secretary Govindan Master

Thiruvananthapuram: Amidst allegations of bribery by a CPM functionary in Kozhikode, CPI(M) state chief has expressed his concerns over the recent tendency of party workers becoming money-minded and thus maligning the image of the party which is began its course correction and rectification in the wake of the poll debacle.

The concerns of the CPI(M) state secretary were made at the meeting of branch secretaries of CPM in Thiruvananthapuram.

“Many people are joining the CPI(M) recently with the sole aim of making money. This tendency is been observed for some time now. There have been many instances recently that has come to our notice which supports this claim. This cannot be tolerated”, said MV Govindan Master, CPI(M) state secretary.

The statement comes at a time when a senior CPM functionary in Kozhikode allegedly received 22 lakhs rupees as bribe from a doctor promising him nomination as a member of Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC).

The party state committee received the complaint that a senior leader from Kozhikode town, who is also a CITU member had received Rs 22 lakhs promising to secure PSC membership to a homeo doctor. The leader had allegedly assured the doctor that the PSC membership can be obtained on payment of Rs 60 lakh and that we would get it done through PWD minister Mohammed Riyas.

The young CPM functionary become the member of the Area committee in the previous organizational elections. The minister Mohammed Riyas had lodged a complaint with the party seeking probe into the matter. There are also allegations that money was taken citing connections with other leaders including MLAs.

Allegations of bribe has put the CPM in a dock after another young leader from Kannur named Manu Thomas who had left the party and had raised serious allegations of financial fraud and connections of certain leaders in the party with Gold smuggling gangs.
