Telangana: 14 people die in rain related incidents, strong winds hit Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Thunderstorms, rain and gusty winds battered several parts of Telangana on Sunday and at least 14 people were dead in separate rain related incidents, Tv9 telugu reported.

In Nagarkurnool district alone, eight were dead out of whom four were construction workers. Four workers Mallesh, Anusha, Chennamma and Ramulu were killed and six others were injured while two were injured when the wall under construction in Indragal village, Tandoor mandal fell on them due to heavy rain.

A farmer named Venkataiah (50) died after lightning struck his village in Marepalli, Thimmajipeta mandal.

A boy named Laxman (13) died due to lightning in Telakapally mandal centre while Gopal Reddy (45) died after being struck by lightning in Nandi Vaddeman village of Bijinapally mandal.

Venugopal, who was sitting in a car in a square in NagarKurnool district center, was killed when a brick shed flew off the brick house and died after being pierced by glass.

In many districts, heavy trees and electricity poles were uprooted, causing traffic disruption at many places. The power supply was out for hours.

Windstorm prevailed in many parts of Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajigiri districts while it rained in Ghanpur, Ibrahimpet and Gurrampodu mandal centers of Nalgonda district’s chief Adicherlapadu mandal.

Gusty winds in Hyderabad:

In Hyderabad, heavy trees and branches broke on roads, houses and vehicles as winds blew at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.  Many hoardings and cell towers erected on multiple floors fell down.

From Hayatnagar to Vanasthalipuram to LB nagar and from Malkajigiri and Medchal to Samirpet to Keesara and Ghatkesar, vehicular traffic was halted. Rain also impacted traffic in Kukatpally, Miyapur, Serilingampally areas and IT corridor in the evening.

Temperatures touch 46 degrees in Telangana:

Even as rain battered some parts of the state, temperatures touched the 46.5 degree Celsius mark in the state on Sunday. The highest temperature was recorded at 46.5 degrees Celsius in Dharmapuri mandal of Jagityala district. Manchiryal district recorded 45.8, Peddapally district witnessed 45.8, Jagitala district Korutla mandal 45.6, Dharmapuri mandal Nerella 45.2, Adilabad district Bhimpur mandal 45.2, Manchiryal district Dandepalli mandal recorded 45.2 degrees Celsius.

According to the India Meteorological Department, there will be dry weather in the state on Monday and Tuesday.
