New Delhi: Manchester United are close to appointing Marc Armstrong as the club’s chief business officer following a long negotiation with Paris Saint-Germain. Armstrong was a chief revenue officer with the Ligue 1 side and is now expected to begin his job at Old Trafford and even the starting date has been agreed.

Since coming on board, INEOS has been known for bringing in expert help to combat situations at Manchester United. Last July, they brought in Omar Berrada from Manchester City, along with Jason Wilcox, replacing Dan Ashworth as the Sporting director. Berrada, Wilcox, Sir Dave Brailsford, and Collette Roche are in charge of restoring United’s football layout.

A look back at Marc Armstrong’s career

Armstrong has had an illustrious career starting with the FA in 1997 as the head of business development and remained there for a decade and moved to T.E.A.M Marketing in 2008 in Switzerland, a company that was responsible for negotiating media rights for UEFA for three decades. In 2012, Armstrong moved to the United States of America to be the vice president of marketing partnerships for the NBA.

Within two years, he was promoted to vice president of global marketing partnerships and emerging markets. In 2018, PSG made him their chief partnerships officer. Four years into his tenure with Les Parisiens he was made the chief revenue officer. United had previously brought in PSG executive Jean-Claude Blanc and in fact, it was Blanc who recommended Armstrong.

For United, Armstrong has a good track record in running everyday commercial pursuits and this will be his role for now with the Red Devils. In fact at the Parisian club, since 2022, Armstrong has been able to improve the revenue for the club. At the moment United are trying to cut expenses but are also in need of income for the club ahead of an important summer window where United need to perform well and bring in talents if they want to improve their current situation. Ruben Amorim, United’s coach has stated that they needed to bring certain kinds of players in order to bring back the glory days at Old Trafford.

Armstrong had been linked with Man United since last year and it was reported that he was stepping down from his role at PSG due to personal reasons.
