Marco Jansen sparkles with the ball to put South Africa in command in Centurion Test

New Delhi: Marco Jansen’s superb six-wicket haul in the Centurion Test match on Saturday helped hosts South Africa restrict Pakistan for 237 runs in their second innings. By virtue of the 90-run lead the Proteas secured after scoring 301 runs in their first innings, in reply to Pakistan’s first innings score of 211, they now need to chase just 148 in their second innings to emerge victorious in the Test match.

This win for the South Africans will possibly secure a position in the World Test Championship 2023-25 final. With couple of days still remaining in the Test match, the fourth day should possibly see a result and that too in favour of South Africa unless the Men in Green do some exceptional work with the ball. Jansen played the perfect role of putting his team in absolute command in the game on the third day.

Jansen sends biggies packing

Jansen accounted for all the big dismissals in the Pakistan side with the astute bowler picking crucial wickets of skipper Shan Masood, Babar Azam and Kamran Ghulam. Saud Shakeel, Mohammed Rizwan and Salman Agha were also victimised by the lethal Proteas bowler making it a total of 6 massive wickets for just 52 runs.

Among all the six wickets, Shakeel scalp was important as he was trapped leg before wicket by Jansen on 84 runs. Babar also looked in fine touch with a gritty half-century but the Proteas man sent them packing to the pavilion just at the right time. Kamran Ghulam, who has been in a fine touch recently coming up with masterful knocks, could not showcase any strength and scored just 4 runs. Apart from Jansen, Kagiso Rabada also picked couple of wickets for South Africa.
