New Delhi: English forward Marcus Rshford has joined Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United for the rest of the season. The 27-year-old’s contract comes with an option to buy, though if Villa don’t take the option, Rashford will be back at Old Trafford in the summer. BBC reported that the terms will see Villa cover 75% of Rashford’s salary along with performance-related bonuses, though they are not paying any loan fee.

Rashford took to Instagram to thank both the clubs for ensuring the loan deal went through. Rashford confirmed that there were quite a few clubs who showed interest but going to Villa was an obvious choice. He lauded his side’s performance in the season and noted he “just wanted to play football”. United in their statement wished him luck for the remainder of the season.

Rashford hasn’t featured in Ruben Amorim’s United squad since the Red Devils won against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League in the middle of December. The Portuguese coach raised concerns about Rashford’s work approach demanding that his players show intensity in training as well. In fact, after United took a 1-0 win against Fulham Amorim recently went on to say he would pick their goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital, aged 63, over Rashford.

The English international had said that he was “ready” to take on new challenges after his omission from the Manchester derby squad. Vila were always looking to strengthen their attack after Jhon Duran left the club for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr. For Unai Emery, Aston Villa coach, Rashford’s arrival is perfect timing, as his experience will be valuable after his side entered the knockout stage of the Champions League.

Marcus Rashford’s journey with Manchester United

While Rashford’s departure from Old Trafford for now may look temporary, it is an end to the 20-year association that he had with the club, joining the club at the age of seven. Coming through the ranks of the academy, Rashford broke into the first team when he was 18.

Some sources said that Rashford wanted to join La Liga side Barcelona initially but couldn’t due to the club’s financial restraints. Even Borussia Dortmund had shown interest but his fee of £350,00 a week was a major reason for the deal failing.

At United Rashford’s best season came in 2022-23 when he scored 30 goals from 56 games across competitions. This season he has scored seven goals across competition. In his 426 appearances for the side, he has scored 138 times. With Red Devils, he has won the Europa League, two FA Cups and two Carabao Cups. For Englan,d he scored 17 times and has featured in two World Cups and two Euros.

Marcus Rashford has been missing from Manchester United squad for over a month and after being linked with several teams has made his move to Aston Villa until the end of the season.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
