Massive Riots Erupt in UK’s Leeds; Bus Set on Fire, Police Car Overturned

Leeds: Massive riots broke out in the Harehills area of Leeds, where buses were set on fire and a police car was overturned by a huge gathering of crowd on Thursday. 

Police forces have been deployed on the streets to control the unrest. Meanwhile, the residents of the area have been advised to stay at home.

Riots In Leeds, Bus Set On Fire

A footage is being circulated on social media where large crowds of people are on the streets creating ruckus, a bus can be seen engulfed in flames and a police car being overturned.

Roads Closed, Advisory Issued

However, no injuries have been reported. Several roads were shut to the public and people were advised to avoid the area till the situation came under control.

Home Secretary and West Yorkshire MP Yvette Cooper said she was “horrified by the shocking scenes.” Cooper wrote on Social Media Platform X, ‘I am appalled at the shocking scenes and attacks on police vehicles & public transport in Leeds tonight. Disorder of this nature has no place in our society.’

West Yorkshire Police said it was dealing with a serious unrest incident by deploying appropriate specialist public order resources after a bus was set on fire and a police vehicle was overturned.

West Yorkshire Police added further pockets of disorder had broken out while responding to the situation and more officers were deployed to assist with the management of this incident.

Police added that the unrest was instigated by a criminal minority intent on disrupting community relations.
