May 2024 car sales by Maruti, Hyundai and Tata Motors compared

New Delhi: Car sales data for the month of May 2024 showed that Maruti Suzuki’s wholesales declined 2 per cent year-on-year, while Hyundai Motor India’s sales jumped 7 per cent and Tata Motors’ wholesales were up 2 per cent. Overall car sales slowed down in May with the onset of the summer season and a heatwave , especially in northern India.

Tata Motors May sales

Tata Motors passenger vehicle sales rose 2 per cent to 47,075 units from 45,984 units during the same period a year ago.
Domestic sales were up 2 per cent to 75,173 units.

Maruti Suzuki May sales

Maruti Suzuki India’s monthly wholesales slipped 2 per cent to 1,74,551 units from 1,78,083 in May. However, the company’s domestic PV sales rose year-on-year to 1,44,002 units. While the utility segment witnessed a jump in sales, overall sales were moderated by a continued decline in the mini-segment, compact car segment and vans.

Hyundai Motor India units sold in May

Hyundai Motor India reported a 7 per cent jump in sales to 63,551 units from 59,601 units a year ago. Domestic despatches rose 1 per cent year-on-year.
Hyundai Motor India also mentioned SUVs as a continued growth driver accounting for 67 per cent of domestic sales, said HMIL COO Tarun Garg said.

M&M, Toyota, Kia India, and MG Motor

Mahindra and Mahindra reported a 17 per cent jump in sales to 71,682 units in May with PV sales surging 31 per cent year-on-year to 43,218 units.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors’ May monthly sales surged 24 per cent year-on-year to 25,273 units. The company has a rebadging agreement with Maruti Suzuki India.
Kia India’s May monthly wholesales were up 4 per cent to 19,500 units year-on-year led by an introduction of new competitive variants of existing models.
MG Motor India’s monthly sales in May dipped 5 per cent year-on-year to 4,769 units. The company’s EV segment saw positive traction in May contributing to a 36 per cent jump in overall monthly sales, the company said.
