New Delhi: Skipper Mayank Agarwal led from the front with a power-packed century guiding his team Karnataka to a win over Punjab in a crucial Vijay Hazare Trophy clash. In the round three encounter of Group C on Thursday, Mayank notched up an unbeaten century off just 90 balls to power Karnataka to a narrow one-wicket victory in Ahmedabad.
Agarwal acted as a lone warrior in the chase of 248 runs as rest of the batters of the Karnataka unit failed to display any class. The skipper remained unbeaten on 137 runs off 127 balls smashing 17 boundaries and three sixes enroute his special innings. Rest of batters fell like a pack of cards with Shreyas Gopal showing some resistance with a knock of 29 runs.

15th century in List A cricket
This was Mayank Agarwal’s 15th century in the List A cricket, in which he has also slammed 23 half-centuries. The stylish batter also surpassed the mark of 600 boundaries in the format and has scored a total of 5170 runs from 116 matches at an average of above 46. Meanwhile, Abhinav Manohar also hit 20 runs as Karnataka (251/9) won the match in 47.3 overs.
Skipper Abhishek Sharma proved to be the pick of the bowlers for Punjab with four wickets while Sanvir Singh and Arshdeep Singh picked two wickets apiece. Baltej Singh also claimed a wicket in the innings. Earlier, Punjab rode on Anmolpreet Singh’s 51 runs and Anmol Malhotra’s 42 runs to pile up 247 runs in 49.2 overs. Nehal Wadhera and Savir also contributed in the total score with knocks of 37 and 35 runs respectively. Raghu Sharma accumulated quick 22 runs towards the end to push Punjab’s score.
