New Delhi: The crowd at the Arun Jaitley stadium on Sunday went bonkers after East Delhi Riders all-rounder Mayank Rawat smashed five sixes in the final over off South Delhi Superstarz skipper Ayush Badoni’s bowling in the final of the Delhi Premier League T20 2024.
Just during the final ball of the penultimate over in the East Delhi innings, Mayank refused to rotate the strike, leaving Harsh Tyagi frustrated at the other end. But his intentions were clear to dispatch the ball into the stands while having the knowledge that the final over would be bowled by a spinner.
It was between Ayush Badoni and left-arm spinner Vision Panchal, who had conceded 16 runs from two overs. Badoni, on the other hand, didn’t bowl after conceding just four runs in the first over. Ahead of the final, the South Delhi skipper picked up seven wickets at an average of 21.14 and an economy rate of 7.04. Hence, he took the bold call of rolling the arms by himself against a rampant Mayank, who was only resurrecting the sinking ship of East Delhi till that point.
But Ayush shoddily erred the lines and yielded the most expensive over of the game. Mayank capitalised on all four full-toss deliveries, three of them under the knees of the batter, to help his side post a substantial score of 183 for 5.
