New Delhi: Young pace sensation Mayank Yadav on Saturday received his maiden India call as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for India’s upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh, starting from October 6. The 22-year-old was named in the 15-member squad led by Suryakumar Yadav.
Mayank was one of the emerging stars talked during the IPL 2024, though he played only four matches for the Lucknow Super Giants. It was the searing pace that caught everyone’s attention. The LSG pacer breached the 150kph-mark consistently in the four matches he featured, clocking 156.7 kph as the fastest delivery of the season in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their backyard.
He registered figures of 3 for 14 to help LSG win by 28 runs, accounting for the dismissals of Glenn Maxwell, Rajat Patidar and Cameron Green. He hasn’t played any competitive cricket for five months after sustaining an abdominal strain during the IPL.
The Delhi pacer went to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for the rehabilitation. He received the fitness clearance from NCA head VVS Laxman. Devendra Sharma, who is the coach of Mayank Yadav, credited the former Indian cricketer for Mayank’s recovery.
“All credit to Laxman sir. He took a special interest in Mayank, right from the day Mayank went to NCA. He was given a clear instruction by Laxman sir to first work on his core strength and then start bowling,” Devendra told The Indian Express.

Mayank Yadav made his domestic debut for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22 season. On Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy debut in the 2022 edition, he claimed two wickets for 23 runs Manipur in Jaipur. He has picked 19 wickets in 14 matches.
