Md. Shami likely to travel to Australia with Rohit Sharma for Border-Gavaskar Trophy

New Delhi: Senior pacer Mohammed Shami is reportedly set to make his comeback for the Indian team and will soon join the squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. Shami, who recently made his return to competitive cricket in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, might travel to Australia with skipper Rohit Sharma.

Shami made a strong comeback for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy after recovering from his injury. He featured in Bengal’s recently concluded clash against Madhya Pradesh in the premier domestic red-ball tournament and picked up seven wickets in the match while bowling 43.2 overs. Shami also played his part with the bat by scoring 36 runs as Bengal went on to beat Madhya Pradesh by 11 runs in the match.

As per a report in Dainik Jagran, Shami is all set to be included in India’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after making his comeback from injury. Shami was not named in India’s original squad for the five-match Test series against Australia which was announced last month.

The report further adds that the pacer might travel to Australia with skipper Rohit and that both players will join the squad before the start of the 1st Test in Perth on November 22. However, as per the report, a call on Shami’s inclusion in the playing XI for the Perth Test will be taken by the Indian team management after he lands in Australia.

India have already named a strong pace attack for the Australia Test series with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana in the squad. Shami’s inclusion will further strengthen India’s pace unit and will give them the much-needed experience in their attack.
