New Delhi: Young Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat is currently representing the nation at the Paris Olympics 2024. Hailing from Haryana, Aman has taken big steps in his career. Born on July 16, 2003, he has already won multiple accolades in his career.
Aman faced many personal challenges early in his life and his journey to the Paris Olympics has been inspiring. At the age of 10, he lost his mother to depression, followed by his father’s death a year later. “After losing my parents, I thought my world had ended,” Aman said in previous interviews.
After the tragedies, Their uncle took care of him and his younger sister, Puja Sehrawat. His grandfather also played an important role in his upbringing and helped him to overcome the depression. “My grandfather was my anchor. He encouraged me to pursue wrestling and kept me going when I wanted to give up,” Aman has shared.
Aman shifted to Chhatrasal Stadium at an early age to pursue his career and from a very young age, he developed unique aggression in his wrestling style.
Sehrawat has previously represented the nation in many premier sporting events, including the Commonwealth Games and Asian World Championships. He came into the limelight in 2019 after winning the gold medal at the Asian Cadet Championship in Nur-Sultan.
Aman won the gold medal at the Asian Championships in Astana, defeating Kyrgyzstan’s Almaz Smanbekov 9-4 in the final. He also won a bronze medal last year at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
He won the bronze medal at the Lin’an Sports and Culture Centre in the men’s 57 Kg event. Japan’s Toshihiro won the gold medal and North Korea’s Han Chong-song won the silver medal. Aman also won two gold, two silver and one bronze medal in the Grand Prix in Almaty, Zagreb, Tunisia, Budapest and Zagreb.
Paris Olympics 2024 Qualification
In May, He became the first Indian male wrestler to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics quota. Aman earned his spot at the World Wrestling Olympic Qualifiers held in Istanbul, Turkey. He defeated Korea’s Chongsong Han 12-2 in the semi-final to claim India’s sixth wrestling quota for Paris.
