New Delhi: Virat Kohli reminded fans of his iconic shot against Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) during the last edition of the T20 World Cup with a brilliant six against Naveen-ul-Haq in India’s clash against Afghanistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 on Thursday. Kohli looked in good touch with the willow in the game but failed to convert his start into a big score.
Kohli lost his opening partner Rohit Sharma early in India’s innings after the Men in Blue won the toss and opted to bat first against Afghanistan. However, he held his ground on one end to combine with no. 3 Rishabh Pant and share a 43-run stand for the second wicket. Kohli smashed his first six of the tournament against Naveen in the 5th over.
It was a brilliant shot from Kohli which took fans on a trip down memory lane and reminded them of the Team India star’s iconic shot against Rauf in T20 World Cup 2022. It was a short-length ball around off from Naveen and Kohli went down the ground to smash it over the bowler’s head for a six, a shot that was similar to the one he played against Rauf at the MCG.

Kohli looked set for a big score finally after enduring a rough patch in the group stage for India. However, he was dismissed cheaply on 24 off 24 balls by spinner Rashid Khan in the ninth over. His run-a-ball knock was laced with a solitary six which came against Naveen. It was another disappointing outing for the Team India star as his opening woes continued in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Indian openers flop again
It was another disappointing outing for both Rohit and Kohli in the game as the Indian openers failed to deliver against Afghanistan on Thursday. While Kohli could only manage a run-a-ball 24, Rohit was sent packing after scoring 8 runs of 13 balls. The Hitman was dismissed by left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi in the third over of India’s innings.
