Merab Dvalishvili defeated Sean O’Malley to become the new UFC Bantamweight champion at the Sphere in Paradise, Nevada on September 15, Sunday. Dvalishvili dominated the fight with his pace and grappling skills and didn’t give a single moment to O’Malley in the bout.
Dvalishvili started the round with some hot shots, kicking O’Malley on the body. Dvalishvili attempted the first takedown of the fight and successfully took O’Malley to the ground. O’Malley escaped and stood up on the feet and took the fight on the feet but immediately Dvalishvili took the second takedown of the fight and won the first round easily.
In the second round, Dvalishvili continued his dominance in the fight and again takedown the champion and got his third takedown in the fight. Dvalishvili was attacking O’Malley in the ground and pound and O’Malley got the warning to hold Dvalishvili’s gloves from inside. Merab didn’t give any moment to O’Malley in the second round and dominated the first two rounds easily.
O’Malley’s team was supporting him by saying ‘You’re the champ’. O’Malley tried to attack Dvalishvili’s body but couldn’t succeed and Dvalishvili continued his dominance in the third round. In the fourth round, Dvalishvili again successfully took down O’Malley clean on the middle of the octagon, Merab’s left eye got a huge cut but he continued to put O’Malley on the ground.
Dvalishvili dominated the first 20 minutes of the fight and O’Malley was looking exhausted from the fight. Dvalishvili took O’Malley to the ground for the fifth time in the fifth round. O’Malley hurt Dvalishvili with some body kicks in the final minutes of the fight but Dvalishvili survived in the last moments of the fight and won the fight unanimously.
Valentine Shevchenko becomes new flyweight champion
Valentina Shevchenko defeated Alexa Grasso via unanimous decision to become the UFC’s new women’s flyweight champion. Shevchenko dominated all five rounds in the fight and took Grasso eight times on the ground. Shevchenko became the two-time flyweight champion.
