New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer and Manoj Tiwary has revealed about his ugly moment with Gautam Gambhir during their playing days for India and Kolkata Knight Riders. Tiwary, who is also a minister in the West Bengal state government, mentioned how then KKR coach Wasim Akram prevented a fight between him and Gambhir.
Manoj played 12 One-Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals for the Indian national men’s cricket team between 2008 and 2015. He played for KKR from 2010 to 2013 and was also part of their title winning campaign in 2012 under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir.
Gambhir and Tiwary fight stopped by Wasim Akram
The two players were involved in a moments of feud at both national team and IPL days. Tiwary revealed how Gambhir would behave with him in a disrespectful manner, including an instance where legendary pacer Wasim Akram had to be the peace-maker.
“I was the highest run-scorer against Australia in a friendly-match. I made 129 runs and he scored somewhat between 105-110. I was the highest but he was angry on me in that match. He said ‘What are you doing? Get down fast, everyone has gone down,” Tiwary said on The Lallantop‘s show Baithaki.
“I was in a washroom, and he came there as well and once again got angry. He said ‘This attitude of yours won’t work and I will do something that I will never make you play. I told ‘Gauti bhai what are you saying?’ Wasim Akram came inside and he calmed down things else there was a possibility of a physical altercation between us on that day,” he added.
Manoj Tiwary also revealed that Gambhir had used cuss words during a Ranji match between Bengal and Delhi apart from insulting former captain Sourav Ganguly.
Gambhir is the current coach of the Indian men’s cricket team across all formats while Tiwary serves as a minister in the West Bengal government and also makes analytical videos on cricket, which he posts on social media platform.
