New Delhi: Oscar Piastri won the Miami Grand Prix, taking his third consecutive race in the season. The Australian driver becomes the first McLaren driver to achieve the feat since Mika Hakkinen. McLaren wrapped a successful weekend at Miami with a 1 and 2 finish in both the sprint and the Sunday race.
It was a heart-pounding start as Verstappen fought Norris to keep his pole position start. The Dutch driver faced a couple of lockups, which Norris tried to take advantage of but instead lost three places after his car ran alongside the Red Bull and got pushed off the track. Kimi Antonelli and Piastri took advantage and immediately put pressure on Verstappen, with the McLaren driver pushing up to second place, going past the teenage driver in no time.

George Russell displays consistency
While Norris fought back, Piastri went past Verstappen by the end of the third lap. Norris was in third place as well and took time to go past Verstappen, going wheel to wheel. Verstappen’s Red Bull’s handling couldn’t hold off the McLaren, and Norris was able to make the move on lap 18. With Norris on the second, Piastri was already ten seconds clear. For the duo, there was little action to the chequered flag, with Piastri winning by 4.6 seconds.
In the middle of the race, a virtual safety car let Mercedes’ George Russell gain several positions, when he stopped for a tyre change, and he finished third, delivering consistent performance this season for Mercedes. In the top ten, Russell was the only driver apart from Hamilton to start on hard tyres. Despite being in fourth place, Verstappen maintained pressure on Russell, but he was never near enough to attempt a comeback to the podium.
For Williams, Alex Albon finished fifth, ahead of Kimi Antonelli’s Mercedes, with Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finishing seventh and eighth. His teammate Carlos Sainz did make a lunge towards the end of the final lap for Lewis Hamilton’s seventh spot, but the British driver held his nerve and his place. Earlier, the two Ferraris had to fight their way past the Spaniard.
Hamilton was left frustrated with Ferrari’s decision-making skills after he was asked to swap with Leclerc after Sainz showed incredible pace. Hamilton quipped that they had swapped in the Chinese GP and both had been disqualified due to weight issues. Ferrari asked the seven-time champions to stay within the DRS range of Leclerc. The Italian team feared that their best shot was a seventh and eighth finish, with Sainz’s late challenge almost proving that to be true. Yuki Tsunoda came tenth, making it only the second time that Red Bull have both cars scoring this season.
For Racing Bulls Liam Lawson, it was yet another disappointing end to the race, as he failed to finish the race after his car got tangled in the opening lap with Jack Doohan’s Alpine. The clash triggered an early virtual safety car, and both had to retire from the race. Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto and Haas driver Ollie Bearman also couldn’t finish the race.
Driver of the Day
George Russell has been in terrific form this season, finishing in the top five in all of the races. Starting at fifth place behind Piastri, the British driver was able to take advantage of the virtual safety car and from there on managed to keep Verstappen at bay, taking home the final spot on the podium. While the two McLarens have better pace than anybody on the grid, Russell was a standout performer.
Oscar Piastri seals his fourth win of the season, as McLaren take their second 1 and 2 position in 2025, wrapping up a successful weekend at Miami. Sports Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
