New Delhi: Mohun Bagan defender Subhasish Bose and East Bengal midfielder Soumya Guguloth were adjudged Indian football’s men and women players of the year for 2024.

They were chosen as the best performers for the 2024-25 season at the All India Football Federation’s annual award ceremony in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

Left-back Bose led Bagan to an Indian Super League Shield and Cup double in a record-breaking season while Guguloth was the third highest scorer with nine goals in EB’s maiden Indian Women’s League-winning campaign.

Bose team-mate Vishal Kaith was named the best men’s goalkeeper while the corresponding women’s award went to East Bengal’s Elangbam Panthoi Chanu.

Kaith had earlier won the ISL golden glove after keeping 15 clean sheets in 26 matches, a tournament record while Bagan’s mark of not conceding a goal for 570 minutes is also the highest by any team.

Bose and Kaith were in the playing XI when Manolo Marquez’s India drew goalless with Bangladesh in an AFC Asian Cup qualifier in Shillong on March 25.

Chanu conceded only 10 times in 14 matches in way to EB’s victory, which was confirmed on April 11 through Guguloth’s goal in their 1-0 win over Odisha FC in Kolkata.

After being chosen as ISL’s emerging player, FC Goa medio Brison Fernandes also received AIFF’s promising men’s player of the year award while Sribhumi FC defender Toijam Thoibisana Chanu was picked as the promising women’s player.

Khalid Jamil was named the men’s coach of the year after guiding NorthEast United to the semi-finals of the ISL Cup and a fifth spot in the league standings. They will also battle for the Super Cup title with FC Goa in the final on Saturday.

Sribhumi’s coach Sujata Kar received female coach of the year recognition. Venkatesh R was named the best men’s referee while Tekcham Ranjita Devi was adjudged the best female referee.

Vairamuthu P and Riiohlang Dhar were picked for the male and female assistant referee of the year awards, respectively.
