MS Dhoni to retire after IPL 2025? Report makes huge claim on CSK legend’s future

New Delhi: Speculations are rife regarding MS Dhoni’s future in the Indian Premier League (IPL) amid Chennai Super Kings (CSK)’s disastrous run in the ongoing IPL 2025. CSK are already out of the race for the playoffs this season, having managed just three wins in 12 matches. Dhoni has been leading the five-time champions after an injury to regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad.

While the CSK captain is yet to address the rumours regarding his retirement from the IPL, many believe he might not continue beyond the current season. However, a report in the Times of India has claimed otherwise. As per the report, CSK insiders believe IPL 2025 won’t be Dhoni’s last in the iconic yellow jersey and that he will continue playing next season.

As per the report, Dhoni has not indicated to the CSK team management and the owners about his future plans yet. Dhoni might take a call on his future in a few months following the conclusion of the IPL 2025. However, there has been no hint from the legendary wicket-keeper batter’s side that he will not be returning for the Men in Yellow next season.

Dhoni was retained by CSK for just Rs 4 crore ahead of IPL 2025 after BCCI brought back the uncapped player rule. Having retired from international cricket in 2020, Dhoni was eligible to be retained as an uncapped player for CSK. Dhoni’s retirement is not believed to be among the major worries at CSK as the team stares at a major rebuild next season after a terrible campaign in IPL 2025.

CSK’s woeful campaign in IPL 2025

Dhoni, who left captaincy ahead of IPL 2024 last year, took over as captain in the ongoing IPL 2025 after Gaikwad suffered an injury midway through the season. CSK had managed only a solitary victory in their first five matches under Gaikwad and have lost five out of seven matches under Dhoni this season, marking one of their worst campaigns in IPL history.

Dhoni is one of the most successful captains in the history of IPL, having led CSK to five titles and an impressive 10 finals. However, he failed to turn around the fortunes of the franchise this season after taking over the captaincy from an injured Gaikwad. CSK was plagued with multiple issues in their batting and bowling line-up, resulting in their disastrous campaign.
