New Delhi: Yograj Singh, the father of former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is garnering headlines once again for his bizarre claims. Yograj, who is known for his absurd statements, was recently criticised by many for attacking former India captains MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev. Yograj made controversial comments about both Dhoni and Kapil during an interview with Switch.
Another clip from the same interview has now grabbed the attention of fans. When asked about his coaching style and what should be the mindset of a youngster training under him, Yograj narrated an old story involving his father. Yograj made some bizarre claims as he said his father once hunted a tiger and smeared its blood on his face when he was just three.
Recalling the incident, Yograj said he was just three when his father decided to take him and his mother along with him for a tiger hunt. He claimed his father wanted to raise him as a fearless child and thus took him on the hunt despite being aware that his son’s life could be at risk in the forest.
“If anyone wants to join your academy, what mindset should that kid come in with?” The host asked Yograj in the interview.
“First of all, the fear of death should end. When I was three years old, my father told my mother that we were going on a tiger hunt. My mother was also brave but she was afraid. My father said, “If he dies, it won’t make any difference. But I will raise him like a tiger’. So that three-year-old kid is sitting with his mother in the jungle of Kaladhungi. My father was carrying a rifle and it was a moonlit night. We were sitting on a machaan (elevated platform). And then the tiger came, the kid was about to shout but my mother held his mouth. Then my father shot the tiger from about six feet. He shot the tiger on the head and he fell like a mountain,” Yograj said in an interview on Switch.
“The kid was speechless. My father told my mother to take me down. He then held me and said, “sher ka baccha ghas nahi khata (a tiger cub doesn’t eat grass). That voice echoed in the jungle. He made me sit on the tiger and smeared its blood on my lips and forehead. I still have that photo in my home,” he added.
Yograj Singh trained Arjun Tendulkar
Yograj, a former international cricketer, played 1 Test and 6 ODIs for India. He was a talented cricketer but could never make it at the highest level. Yograj turned to cricket coaching after retirement and also had a big role to play in shaping his son Yuvraj’s career. Yuvraj has revealed in the past that his father was a hard task master and used to push him to extremes during training.
Yograj also took Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar under his wings and trained him. While Yograj showered praise on the all-rounder, Arjun has failed to capitalise on the opportunities in the domestic circuit and the Indian Premier League (IPL). Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh made bizarre claims as he opened up on his coaching style and recalled how his father once killed a tiger and smeared the animal’s blood on his face when he was young.
