Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu released a white paper on the status of Amaravati at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
The white paper includes damage done to the structures which were under different stages of construction and an action plan which stresses on the need to develop Amaravati and revitalise its economy.
In a power point presentation at the Secretariat, he laid out that Amaravati was systematically weakened and destroyed by the previous YSRCP government.
What does the white paper say?
The white paper argues that the annuity for 2,903 farmers stopped, pensions removed for 4,422 families, Rs. 485.32 crore budget of APCRDA lapsed, Contract of Master Architect for Amaravati Government Complex (AGC) Norman+ Foster was cancelled, Minister MA&UD, complained to World Bank and stopped the funding of $300 million, state Government complained to GoI and stopped Rs. 1000 Crore Grant, 122 out of 130 land allottees have lost confidence and did not start any activity.
The white paper also stated that if the original plan was implemented between 2019-2024, a world class capital for the state would be in place and 7 lakh jobs would have been created during construction, Rs 2 lakh crore would be added to the GDP and wealth generation would have taken place.
Laying the way forward, it says that construction in the area needs to restart after investor confidence is lost and brand image of AP has suffered over the last five years. The paper argues that investor confidence needs to be restored and the brand image needs to be rebuilt and economy must be resurrected and argues for a vision to create a world class capital which boosts the image of the state and improves the confidence of the people.
