New Delhi: Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto promised a blockbuster action in the T20I series against India but the ongoing first match of the three-game series in Gwalior is proving to be otherwise. After a thrashing in the Test series, Shanto vowed to make a strong comeback and assured that his ‘new-look team’ would play an aggressive brand of cricket but to utter disappointment, India ruled the first innings in Gwalior.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Team India bowlers looked in an entirely different mood and that was to sent the Bangla batters packing to the dug out as soon as possible. Arshdeep Singh weaved magic in the first over itself, sending the classical Litton Das back to the pavilion for just 4 runs. As the Bangla Tigers started to recover from the first blow, the left-arm seamer again came haunting is his second over, cleaning up opener Parvez Hossain Emon for 8 runs.
Shanto, Towhid Hridoy rebuild, raise hopes
Skipper Shanto and two down batter Towhid Hridoy started to rebuild for the side raising some hopes but un fortunately it was short lived. The duo stitched a partnership of 26 runs, taking the overall score to 40 but the 7th over of the innings again brought misery for the visiting side. Leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy spun his magic picking up the wicket of the well-set Hridoy for 12 as Bangladesh suffered another blow.
Mayank Yadav’s maiden international wicket
Indian speedster Mayank Yadav, who received a call-up for the Test series, had a dream debut as he picked up his maiden international wicket by dismissing Mahmudullah for 1 as India continued their celebration. This was the fourth blow suffered by the Bangladesh team and it became special for India as it was picked by the King of Speed – Mayank.
The remaining wickets came up at regular intervals, just when they were needed, as the visitors folded for just 127 runs in 19.5 overs. Arshdeep and Varun picked up three wickets apiece while Hardik Pandya, Mayank and Washington Sundar contributed one wicket apiece.
