New Delhi: India’s Navdeep Singh missed out on the elusive gold medal by a whisker in the men’s javelin F41 final at the Paris Paralympics 2024 on Saturday, September 07. Navdeep shattered the Paralympics record during the final with a brilliant throw of 47.32m. However, in the end, it was not enough as he had to settle for a silver medal.

Iran’s Beit Sayah Sadegh broke the Paralympic record set by Navdeep in the same final to clinch the gold medal with a record throw of 47.64m. The 23-year-old para-javelin thrower from Delhi didn’t have the kind of start he wanted in the final as he started with a foul throw in his first attempt. However, Navdeep made amends soon as he produced a strong throw of 46.39m in his second attempt.

Navdeep’s moment in the final arrived on his 3rd attempt when he produced his personal best and shattered the previous Paralympics record with a mighty throw of 47.32m. The Indian grabbed the top spot on the table with his impressive throw and looked in touching distance of winning the gold medal.

However, Navdeep slipped to the 2nd spot on the table after Iranian Sadegh left everyone stunned with a monstrous throw of 47.64m in his 5th attempt which sealed the gold medal for him. Navdeep finished with a 46.05 throw and a foul in his final two attempts to return with the silver medal.

Navdeep had finished 4th to miss out on a medal at his Paralympics debut in the last edition in Tokyo. He entered his second Games on a confident note with revived hopes and managed to bag his maiden Paralympic medal – a silver. Earlier, the 23-year-old won a gold medal at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai in 2021.
