New Delhi: India’s sportspersons don’t give up till the last moment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in Moscow on Tuesday in reference to the national cricket team’s recent T20 World Cup triumph.
India defeated South Africa by seven runs in the final in Bridgetown to lift their second T20 World Cup title and first since winning the inaugural edition in 2007.
It was also India’s first major ICC title since 2013 and World Cup triumph across any format since 2011, when they won the ODI World Cup.
The Rohit Sharma-led team were accorded a heroes welcome when they landed in India after being stuck in Bridgetown for several days due to hurricane Beryl.
On their arrival in Delhi, they were invited by PM Modi at his residence for a breakfast party and congratulated the team during an interactive session.
“You all must have celebrated India’s T20 World Cup victory. Did you? Or did you not? Were you all proud or not? There is a real story and a road towards the World Cup triumph,” PM Modi said during his address to the Indian diaspora in Moscow.

“Today’s youth and the youth of India do not give up till the last ball and last moment. The victory kisses those feet who are not ready to give up.
“The feeling is not just limited to cricket but is also evident in other sports.”
Modi is on a two-day visit to Russia where he has met President Vladimir Putin. It is his first trip to the European nation after coming to power for the third time.
Support to Paris Olympics-bound athletes
PM Modi has also backed the Indian athletes who will be competing in the upcoming Paris Olympics that begins from July 26 to give a good account of themselves.
“The Indian athletes have produced historic performances at the international level. This time in the Paris Olympics as well, a great team is going who will represent India.
“It will be great to watch how the entire team from different ethnicities will produce stellar performances. The self-belief of the young India is the real treasure of the country,” he said.
