No bigger challenge than facing India in India, says Bangladesh coach Hathurusingha

New Delhi: Chandika Hathurusingha, Bangladesh’s head coach, is looking forward to facing the biggest challenge in cricket when his team takes on India in a daunting away series, starting in Chennai on September 19. Bangladesh are coming on the back of a sensational maiden Test series win over Pakistan and Hathurusinghe believes the historic win will hold his side in good stead.

“It (the win in Pakistan) certainly gives us a lot of confidence coming into this series,” Hathurusingha said on Monday.

The Bangladesh coach believes there is no bigger challenge in world cricket than facing India in India. The last time India lost a Test series at home was 12 years ago in 2012. Earlier this year, India registered their 17th consecutive series win at home after defeating England.

India’s last home Test series loss came against England in 2012-13 where MS Dhoni and Co. lost 1-2.

“Coming to India and playing against India, that’s the best challenge you get nowadays in cricket. So playing against the best always gives you the perception of where you stand. As well as looking forward to, as sportsmen, we are looking forward to that challenge,” he added.

The veteran Sri Lankan said that the spinners will play a key role but also admitted that the fast bowlers will be crucial for the fate of the matches. He also praised Bangladesh’s current pace battery which he said is a by-product of a lot of hard work. The head coach reserved special praise for the new sensation Nahid Rana, who impressed with his blistering pace in Pakistan.

The thrilling action kicks off on Thursday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, before moving to Kanpur for the second and final Test, which will be held at the iconic Green Park Stadium.
