New Delhi: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) demolished Inter Milan in one of the most lop-sided finals in recent history to win their maiden Champions League title in Munich on Sunday. PSG thrashed Inter 5-0 with the help of a brace from Desire Doue and goals from Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu in the final.
Following PSG’s memorable Champions League triumph, the debate surrounding the Ballon d’Or has intensified with many backing French forward Ousmane Dembele for the top honour. PSG boss Luis Enrique also picked Dembele to win the Ballon d’Or this year after his stellar season with the club. Enrique said he has no doubts that Dembele deserves the prestigious award.
While he couldn’t find the back of the net in the 5-0 thrashing of Inter Milan in the final, Dembele produced two assists to help PSG run away comfortable winners in the all-important clash. The French star finished the season with 33 goals and 15 assists for PSG in 49 appearances across competitions in the 2024-25 season.
Dembele is one of the top contenders for the Ballon d’Or this year, alongside the likes of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah and the Barcelona duo of Raphinha and Lamine Yamal. However, Enrique has no doubts in his mind about who should win the top prize. The Spanish manager lavished praise on Dembele for his performance in the final while backing him for the Ballon d’Or.
“I’d give the Ballon d’Or to Mr Ousmane Dembele. The way he defended tonight… only that can be worth the Ballon d’Or. This is how you lead a team. Goals, titles, leadership, defending, how he was pressing. Ousmane is my Ballon d’Or. No doubts at all,” Enrique told reporters after PSG’s Champions League triumph.
