No phone, could lose home: Outside world to haunt Kambli as he walks out of hospital

New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli was finally discharged from a private hospital in Thane district on Wednesday after undergoing treatment for nearly two weeks. Kambli, who being treated for a urinary infection primarily, walked out of the hospital at around 4 PM but the outside world doesn’t hold much to celebrate for the ex-Indian star player.

As per a report published in News18, Kambli could end up losing his home if he is unable to clear the outstanding society maintenance fees. The report further states that Kambli’s wife Andrea Hewitt has said that theur housing society is currently chasing her for Rs 18 lakh unpaid maintenance fees and they could end up losing their home as well.

Vinod Kambli’s financial struggles

Vinod Kambli has to survive on Rs 30000 which he receives as monthly pension from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and he recently received an aid of Rs 5 lakh from a political party. The report further mentions that the former Indian batter has been without his phone for the last six months. Kambli used to own an iPhone but it was snatched by a shopkeeper after he wasn’t able to pay Rs 15,000 repair fee.

While at the private hospital, Kambli faced difficulties in availing and accessing medical facilities but he was helped by many friends and former Indian cricketers who extended financial help to him. He was admitted to the hospital for a urinary tract infection and during some medical procedure, it was also found that there were blood clots in his brain. While his health has improved, he continues to struggle financially.

In a New Year’s message, the 52-year-old made an appeal to the people to stay away from alcohol and narcotic drugs, saying that they can destroy the life. Meanwhile, Dr Vivek Trivedi, who treated him at the hospital, declared Kambli completely fit.
