No Rohit Sharma, Akash Deep as India opt to bat in must-win Sydney Test

New Delhi: India skipper Rohit Sharma has been dropped from the playing X1 of the fifth and final Test between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Jasprit Bumrah is leading the side in Rohit’s place as Team India looks to come back from 1-2 down and aim to draw the series.

Rohit’s fate was all but confirmed on the eve of the SCG Test when head coach Gautam Gambhir refused to confirm his skipper’s spot in the playing X1 and later was pictured looking isolated in the training session.

Stand-in skipper Bumrah won the toss and opted to bat first as India made two changes. Rohit was replaced by Shubman Gill while injured Akash Deep made way for Prasidh Krishna.

Meanwhile, Australia excluded Mitchell Marsh and gave Beau Webster a debut.
