Thiruvananthapuram: Inviting displeasure among the Padmanabha Swamy temple authorities, the members of the Kowdiar palace and the devotees, few pictures and an unclear video clip of an employee working under the temple administration along with his friends consuming chicken biriyani has been making rounds in social media.
Following the preliminary probe, an employee has been suspended pending investigation. The incident was reported on Monday.
Thantri Tharanallur Namboothiripad said that the incident reported is extremely shocking even after strict protocols and rules are under place in the temple premises.
“Such an incident is unheard of in the temple, However, the concerned authorities will probe the matter and take the necessary steps”, he said.
The Thantri has also advised all the employees in the administration to avoid non vegetarian food in any place related to the temple within the premises. The administration has taken serious note of the matter to ensure such incidents do not repeat in the future.
Pictures of the biriyani packets arranged in a room within the temple premises and an unclear video connecting to the incident has led to a major uproar within the temple administration which has clearly stated in its law book that non-vegetarian food is prohibited within the temple premises.
Initially it was alleged that an employee on the driver’s post had eaten chicken biryani with other employees on Monday afternoon. The unclear video footage of this was circulated on social media. At first, the allegations were centred around the officials. Only later the employee was zeroed in.
The temple office employees had earlier been allotted a separate room to have food where a CCTV had also been installed. A source in the temple administration said that the senior governing body officials including the executing officer had warned few employees on the matter, however it did not escalate further as a formal complaint was not made back then.
