New Delhi: North Korea threatens to “totally destroy” its enemies if leader Kim Jong commands it, state media KCNA reported on Sunday.
Military Leaders Express Hatred Towards US and South Korea
At a meeting on Saturday, senior military officials, including Army Colonel Ri Un Ryong and Navy Lieutenant Commander Yu Kyong Song, expressed strong hostility toward the U.S. and South Korea.
They made these remarks in the presence of Kim Jong Un, who was attending an event to mark the 71st anniversary of the Korean War armistice, as reported by state media KCNA.
Diplomatic Tension Between US and North Korea
North Korea and the United States lack diplomatic relations, and discussions about reducing tensions and denuclearizing North Korea have been stalled since 2019. North Korea’s state media recently indicated that it doesn’t expect any changes regardless of who is elected in the White House.
The military officials also accused the U.S. and South Korea of aggressively provoking a nuclear war at the meeting. They vowed to enhance their combat readiness to launch an attack on their enemies at any moment, should Kim Jong Un give the order to do so.
On July 27, 1953, North Korea signed an armistice agreement with the United States and China, bringing an end to the three-year Korean War. U.S. generals signed the agreement on behalf of the United Nations forces supporting South Korea.
North Korea celebrates this day as “Victory Day,” while South Korea does not hold any major events to mark the occasion.
Since the war ended with a truce rather than a peace treaty, North Korea and South Korea are still technically at war.
