New Delhi: India’s star T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav, who was named as the new T20I captain for the three-match series against Sri Lanka, wrote a heartfelt note and thanked the supporters for their love.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the teams for the white-ball tour against the Island nation. Rohit Sharma will lead the Men in Blue in the ODI series and Shubman Gill named as the vice-captain of the team.
The BCCI ended the speculation on whether it will be Suryakumar or Hardik Pandya who will lead the team in the shortest format after Rohit Sharma’s retirement. Suryakumar took to social media and said the last few weeks have been nothing short of a dream and he is truly grateful.
“Thank you so much for outpouring love, support and best wishes from you. Last few weeks have been nothing short of a dream and I am truly grateful. Playing for the country is the most special feeling that I will never be able to describe in words. This new role brings with it, a lot of responsibility, excitement and enthusiasm. I hope to keep receiving your support and blessings. All fame reaches God, God is great” Suryakumar said in his Instagram post.
After Rohit’s retirement, Hardik was the prime contender to lead the Men in Blue in T20Is but the new head coach showed faith in Suryakumar. He led the team in seven T20I matches against Australia and South Africa in Hardik’s absence.
‘I feel very happy’: Suryakumar’s childhood coach
Surykumar’s childhood coach said that he was very happy after hearing the news. He also said that he messaged him (SKY) in the afternoon and told him that he would get a big message today.
“I had messaged him (SKY) in the afternoon saying that you would get a big message today, and in the evening, when we heard the news, I felt very proud… I feel very happy. Captaincy is a slightly different role. He played in the World Cup 2024 with great players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja.
