‘Nothing to worry about’: Former cricketer backs Virat Kohli after failures in Sri Lanka ODIs

New Delhi: Star Indian batter Virat Kohli had a difficult outing in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. He scored only 58 runs at an average of 19.57 in the three-match ODI series. The Men in Blue lost the ODI series against Sri Lanka after 27 years.

The Indian captain Rohit Sharma showed some intent in the series and scored two half-centuries but the middle-order batsmen failed to score runs throughout the series. Likes of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Shivam Dube all struggled to score runs against Sri Lankan spinners.

As per the reports. India’s new head coach Gautam Gambhir requested Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to take part in the ODI series. Both cricketers were not part of the T20I series as they announced their retirement from the shortest format after winning the T20 World Cup in West Indies.

Rohit and Virat returned from a long break and fans expected them to have a great series with the bat. Rohit did a great job and provided explosive starts in the run-chase but Virat looked out of touch in all three matches.

‘It’s been tough pitch to play spinners’: Dinesh Karthik

The former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik backed Virat Kohli and said that the pitch was tough to play spinners and there is nothing to worry about. He also said that he is not defending Virat Kohli but playing spin was very hard at R. Premdasa Stadium.

“It’s been a tough pitch to play spin in this series, let’s admit that first. Be it Virat Kohli, be it Rohit Sharma, or be it anyone else. With the slightly semi-new ball between overs about 8 to 30, it’s been hard work. It’s nothing to worry about,” Karthik told Cricbuzz.

“Not too many pitches work that way, but it’s been a tough pitch to play spinners. I’m not going to defend Virat Kohli here, but I can tell you that playing spin was very hard,” Karthik added.
