New Delhi: Rain played spoilsport as New Zealand locked horns with Sri Lanka in the 2nd ODI of the ongoing three-match series between the two sides at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on Wednesday, January 08. Rain has delayed the toss in Hamilton as both teams continue to wait while the overs deduction has already started.
The game was supposed to get underway at 6 AM IST on Wednesday but the toss had to be delayed after a slight drizzle. The fans hoped the match would get underway soon but the delay was extended as the drizzle became steady leading to a wet outfield. The deduction of overs started after the toss was delayed until 7:15 AM IST, a delay of 1:15 hours.
However, the drizzle has stopped at the moment and the umpires are inspecting the field regularly as there is still hope of a reduced game between the two sides. New Zealand are leading the three-match series 1-0 after beating Sri Lanka comprehensively by nine wickets in the 1st ODI in Wellington on Sunday, January 05.
Hamilton, Seddon Park weather report
While rain has already hampered the proceedings in the 2nd ODI, as per Accuweather, the weather is expected to remain pleasant for the rest of the day. It is expected to be partly sunny from 4 PM onwards (local time) with no chance of rain returning till the game concludes. However, the weather in Hamilton has been unpredictable historically and it won’t be surprising if poor weather leads to another delay after the game starts.
New Zealand aim to seal series
New Zealand started the series with an emphatic victory in the first ODI in Wellington after an impressive show from pacer Matt Henry. Henry picked up a four-wicket haul to rattle Sri Lanka’s batting line-up as the hosts were skittled out cheaply for 178 runs, batting first in the game. New Zealand rode on opener Will Young’s brilliant 90-run knock and Rachin Ravindra’s 45 to chase down the low-key target with 23.4 overs to spare and register a dominant 9-wicket win.
The hosts will be looking to seal the three-match series 2-0 by taking an unaslaible lead with a victory in the 2nd ODI between the two sides on Wednesday.
