New Delhi: It has been confirmed by Liverpool that centre-back Virgil van Dijk has signed a new contract. All season long, the Reds have been under tremendous pressure to settle the contracts of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Van Dijk before they expire this summer. Salah started things off last week by signing new terms, but the latter is anticipated to go on a free transfer. Van Dijk has now signed a new two-year contract at Anfield, following suit.
The saga has been going on for quite a while now, as there were uncertainties surrounding Anfield about Van Dijk potentially not signing a new deal with the Reds. Van Dijk has maintained that he has always desired to stay at Liverpool, despite intense rumours that he might join another European powerhouse. Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain were both mentioned as potential suitors.
“I’m very happy, very proud,” Van Dijk told club media. “There are so many emotions obviously that go through my head right now speaking about it.
“It’s a proud feeling, it’s a feeling of joy. It’s just incredible. The journey I’ve had so far in my career, to be able to extend it with another two years at this club is amazing and I’m so happy.”
