PAK vs BAN: Captain Shan Masood furious after third umpire makes controversial decision – WATCH

New Delhi: Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood was furious after his dismissal on day 1 of the first Test match against Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. Masood was caught behind in Shoriful Islam’s over and the on-field umpire adjudged him not out.

After the discussion, skipper Najmul Shanto took the DRS review and the decision was overturned by the third umpire Michael Gough. In the replay, it was visible that the ultra-edge was spiking just a frame after the ball passed Masood’s bat. The visuals also showed that the ball touched the pad but the third umpire reversed the decision and left Masood fuming.

Pakistan finished Day 1 on 158/4

Heavy rain lashed out in Rawalpindi overnight and the start of the match got delayed due to the wet outfield. Bangladesh got off to a great start after opting to bowl first and dismissed three Pakistan batters in the first 10 overs. Hasan Mahmud got the wicket of Abdullah Shafique in the fourth over and Shoriful Islam removed skipper Shan Masood on 6 runs. Islam also dismissed Babar Azam on a duck with a short-of-length delivery.

Saud Shakeel and Saim Ayub steadied Pakistan’s ship with a partnership. Both batters stitched a 98-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Shakeel also became the joint fastest Pakistan batter to score 1000 runs in Test cricket. He reached the milestone in his 20th innings and equalled Saeed Ahmed’s record. Ayub scored 56 runs off 98 balls and was dismissed by Hasan Mahmud. Shakeel and Rizwan are in the middle and will resume the batting on Day 2.
