New Delhi: The countdown for the Paris Olympics 2024 has begun. With just 10 days to go before the biggest sporting spectacle begins in the French capital, the excitement and anticipation of the fans have reached fever pitch. A total of 329 gold medals in 32 sports over 18 days of competition across Paris and in other parts of the European nation will be awarded to some renowned and unknown athletes.
The 34th edition of the Summer Olympics will begin on July 26, Friday with a glittering opening ceremony. However, the sporting action will kick-start on Wednesday, July 24 with pool matches in football, rugby sevens, handball and archery.
The competition will conclude on August 11, with the closing ceremony scheduled for later in the evening.
India will field a total of 118 athletes, including 48 women athletes, across 16 sports disciplines. Men’s javelin throw defending champion Neeraj Chopra will lead a 30-member Indian athletics team. Star shuttler P.V. Sindhu and veteran paddler Sharath Kamal will be India’s flag-bearers in the opening ceremony.
India will aim to better their all-time medals tally with a strong showing in Paris. The Asian nation returned with their best-ever haul of seven medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
India’s medal hopes rest on javelin, badminton, shooting, wrestling, and boxing.
