New Delhi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to seek clarification from the International Cricket Council (ICC) on India’s refusal to visit the neighbouring nation for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Last week, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed the apex cricketing body that the Indian cricket team will not travel to Pakistan for the ICC event as the Indian government has not given permission for the same.
According to a report in Dawn, the PCB has decided to write to the ICC and seek answers to why India is not willing to travel to the neighbouring nation for the big ICC event. The report further mentions that the Pakistan cricket board is busy preparing questions to formally present in front of the ICC regarding why their Asian rivals are not willing to play in Pakistan.
PCB denies hybrid model
Earlier, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also a interior minister in Pakistan’s federal government, had categorically denied to allow the hybrid model get into place which will be in favour of the Indian team and allow them to play their Champions Trophy matches at a neutral venue. Due to the political differences between India and Pakistan, both the teams have neither played any bilateral cricket since 2008 nor India has travelled to Pakistan since the same year.
Both India and Pakistan only meet at big ICC events, since the last 15-16 years, like the T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup and the Asia Cup. According to some reports, the ICC communicated to the PCB that they will get their entire hosting money despite the tournament being held in a hybrid model. Same was the case in Asia Cup 2023 when Sri Lanka was chosen as the co-host while Pakistan received entire money for being the primary hosts.
