New Delhi: While the Paris 2024 Olympics official begin on July 26, football and rugby sevens gave a kickstart to the showpiece event on Wednesday. Paris Olympics will witness the participation of over 10000 athletes from more that 200 countries, who will participate in as many as 32 sporting disciplines.
This edition of the Olympics witnesses an increase in the number of sports from 28 to 32, with the introduction of four new sports – breaking, skateboarding, surfing, and sports climbing – aiming to attract a younger audience. Out of the total 32 disciplines, India will be participating across 16 sports, with an aim to bring more medals home.
For India, a strong 117-member contingent will represent the nation at the Paris Games with the likes of javelin star Neeraj Chopra, badminton stars PV Sindhu, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, and weightlifter Mirabai Chanu among the favourites to bring home a medal.
Opening Ceremony Date & Time in India
The Olympic Opening Ceremony will not be held in a stadium in Paris for the first time in history. Instead, number of boats will carry thousands of athletes and performers on a 6km floating parade on the River Seine. The much-awaited opening ceremony begins at 11.00 PM IST on July 26, Friday and is expected to last four hours.
